The vintage, old-style twist was not voluntary but a necessary consequence of my idea of a femininity of past times, where women had a wooden boudoir and spent hours to put powder and other beauty secrets on their face and body, and didn’t care to affirm themselves through a career but would exert their power through Beauty and Seduction. Then I softened the powdery-iris-rose part by adding a mixture of resins, representing a dirty experienced sensuality.

The inspiration for Etruscan Water comes from two different sources. The first one is my personal memory: being born and raised in Tuscany, we could go to the beach in the South of the region, where hundreds of years ago our forefathers, the Etruscans, used to live.

In order to access to the most stunning, well hidden small bays, and offering the most transparent water, there was a 30 minutes walk through the woods.These woods are full of wonders! The smell of typical Mediterranean vegetation is charming and, if you are lucky (or unfortunate…) you could bump into a wild boar – or even some remains of the Etruscan civilisation.The salty, refreshing smell of the sea soothes you from the heat of the sun that is warming up your skin.The second source of inspiration is my personal research on masterpieces of perfumery, as I have recently been intrigued by the classical masculine citrusy cologne – not the light ones, but those with a strong character.

Lost in Heaven depicts a dream sequence of an adult getting lost in paradise. 

It represents the complexity of feelings conveying both the longing for a place of uncontaminated innocence and unconditional love and the inevitable and controversial burden of life, made up of feelings of sin and guilt – real, or even worse, imaginary.

This dichotomy, which sits at the back of anyone’s soul, is portrayed by a selection of the most angelic notes: beautiful Orange Flower and Jasmine absolutes, together with soft Heliotrope, smooth Sandalwood, sweet Tonka Bean and many other notes that I consider paradisiac. 

The darker side is conveyed in a much more subtle way, not immediately detectable, via cumin and other spices, and a large selection of animalistic notes, including a reconstruction of Tonkin Musk. 

I thought of naming this perfume ‘Feeling Good’, as that is its purpose: to make you feel as you might in paradise, not a fake, imaginary one, but a real place where you finally cope with the darker side of you, with the heavy baggage that you carry with you. 

Fragile, sensual, emotional, though not technically a gourmand, it reminds me of a cake, rich in spices and with an orange blossom aroma: not haute patisserie but the archetypical smell of a cake made by Mommy, with only good things in it.

Sex behind the dunes…. an adult sexy dream, but actually this scent has a slightly different genesis.This perfume represents the memory of a sensual encounter at the seaside. Far from being a fresh-ozonic, harmless perfume, it is a passionate and wild concoction of overheated skin, coconut sun lotion, saltiness of the sea and the sand, suggesting the atmosphere of a voluptuous rendez-vous behind the dunes.

During my childhood and teenage years I used to spend lots of time at the seaside. One of the strongest memories of that time is the smell of my skin, which I liked to sniff like a junkie. Eventually my parents sold the house at the seaside, and university, work, boyfriends etc. brought me far from that memory. Five years ago I moved to the Netherlands and I forgot the smell of my sweaty, salty skin.Sometimes back I bumped into a face cream of L’Occitaine containing Immortelle. The odor of that plant was actually not so pungent in the cream, nonetheless it was strongly pulling out of my head the childhood memory of my skin.I confess I had totally neglected the essential oil of Helicrysium which was sitting on my shelf.  But now I smelled it again, with a new nose.  I worked on a special amber accord, I would say — a  human one. A Civet tincture reinforced this intimate atmosphere, while a special ambergris molecule added the mineral-salty touch.

Beautiful memories of a fresh breeze at the seaside, while flirting on the salty sand are conjured in this narcotic, almost hypnotic potion. This is a unique, intriguing concoction of sparkling neroli, creamy coconut on a warm, embracing an ambery drydown with animalic facets.

This perfume came out just for fun: What happens if I get my Sex and The Sea – an extrovert, sexy, warm scent – and combine it with my Neroli reconstitution – a shy, sharp, hypnotic smell?

Mind you, things didn’t happen that easily, I had to calibrate the whole formula to allow Neroli to stay in the same room with Sex and The Sea.

But the result was so hypnotic and sexy, so refreshing and warm, that I decided to produce this little treasure and not just to keep it for my personal use.

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for an anti-snobbish attitude (though probably being unconsciously snobbish myself) therefore the simple idea of creating something as commercial as a “flanker” was exhilarating.

Sex and The Sea Neroli presents – as the original version  – a heart of coconut, the saltiness of the sea, the sweet sweat of a warm skin but this time with a hint of narcotic freshness, which makes the perfume more complex and its evolution more intriguing.

The perfume revolves around Patchouli, in a decadent and sumptuous interpretation. The opening immediately puts on the table the powerful weapons: an intense, almost boozy patchouli and leather. It is somehow wild and carefree, dangerously dressed in leather but playful. The dry-down gets softer and more complex, thanks to a dirty iris butter which makes the whole atmosphere smoother and more intriguing. Don’t get fooled by iris, no romance is going on here: tobacco leaves are rolled, the leather jacket is eventually thrown somewhere, and the delightful and tempting smell of skin finally emerges.
Many intertwined reasons and personal mental associations led me to this creation and its title.
This perfume is conceived to be as tempting as chocolate stuck all over your fingers and you cannot help but licking them. Mind you: this is not a gourmand fragrance, and licking your fingers is a metaphor referring to other kind of irresistible temptations.

Unforgettable and unmistakable: The Dark Side is a unique Oriental perfume with multiple facets, inspired by the Moroccan city of Marrakesh and the rich and mesmerizing effusion of its market and streets.I love woody warm sweet woody oriental stuff, and this scent is my attempt in this category. Its formula is very complex, made up by lots of components which I tried to mix in the smoothest way I could. So many components that, if you ask me, I have to look up the formula, the pyramid being just a synthesis.The funny thing is, I worked so much on the balance of so many ingredients that I forgot how it all started. It all started in Marrakesh, one of my favorite city, which I visited at 28 and then 39, always coming back with plenty of fake oils, scented stones, resins to burn, carpets, swords, and other useless but crucial objects.  Last time I came back with many smelly bottles, among which a deliciously fake oud oil. I have never been a fan of it — as it was so fashionable lately, and I really hate trends — but this one is different. So, once home, I tried to make my own base inspired by this Moroccan fake oud, thus creating a sticky sweet woody smoky oriental stuff, which I called ‘My Oud’.

In this composition I have been searching for the perfect balance between two opposite elements, and the expression of their clashing contraposition.
I had in mind a Post-Apocalyptic condition, where traces of a highly sophisticated and refined civilisation survived in the dark and fearful condition of a collapsed and destructured world.
Blake’s Tyger embodies both qualities I wanted to depict: sublime and irresistibly attractive from one side and terrible and scary from the other one. The ‘fearful symmetry’ – a character attributed to the tiger by W Blake – aptly represent this opposition of beautiful perfection and terror.The perfume is built around an accord of narcotic white flowers with sweet-fruity facets, which includes also an absolute of Tuberose – like a prima donna, the protagonist of a dramatic piece, she’s the finest example of a refined civilization of a bygone world; in opposition to that, the base notes present different kind of woods, with some burnt and leathery qualities, referring to a post-apocalyptic scenario of destruction, mystery and darkness.

Under My Skin is my interpretation of the animalic theme. I was charmed by strong animalic scents, and I tried to do my own; but I had to realize that what I like in other’s creations is not necessarily what I like to create myself.Mysterious and seductive, soft and carnal at the same time, Under my Skin is my interpretation of the animalic theme. Softened by precious iris butter, this emotional fragrance is human and intimate, as if it emanates from your own skin.So after adding animalic materials going into the heavy or sweet or stable-like direction, I had to eliminate them little by little, and arrive to this solution which suits me the best: a leathery, slightly animalic, powdery one, a velvety and elegant take. It goes along with my personality and my style and when I finally realized that this was my way, I was finally happy and relieved.The name comes from a conversation with an artist and fragrance lover, who said it is as if the scent emanates from the skin. This concept of ‘Under My Skin’ reinforced my path of going into something more subtly ’human’ than overtly ‘animal’. The core of the scent is a combination of animalic and leathery notes tamed by iris butter (at 15% irone!). After working on this core, I worked on the base notes, made up by Tolu Balsam, Peru Balsam, Tonka Bean and several kind of woods.

Perhaps with boldness, I wanted to venture into a territory even more dangerous than the pure expression of personal instance translated into perfume, i.e. offering my own interpretation of the “raw” materials – the building blocks of a perfume composition as well as the crucial pillars of the history of perfumery.

The result of this adventure will certainly be ephemeral, since my positions and ideas on certain raw materials are multiple and changeable over time.
These interpretations are certainly not to be considered a realistic reconstruction, but the result of a transitory artistic vision.
In the myriad of possible meanings, with Unspoken Musk I wanted to define what Musk evokes in me.
I didn’t look for the realistic rendering of natural musk, which is where the inspiration comes from.
Moreover, if natural musks cannot be used in perfumery, the varieties of the synthetic ones embrace the most disparate olfactory categories.
From “clean” musks in the “laundry-fresh” direction (not arousing any artistic imagination in me, however pleasant in its mere functional use) to the “dirty” ones that reached some interesting interpretative excesses, these two extremes define a very broad “musk map”, where anything is possible.
